The fire company was given a grant of $5,339.00 for the purchase of equipment. This is the 2nd consecutive year Darby has been awarded this grant. The money was used to purchase 1 3/4" hose and (2) Stihl power saws. The eqipment allows Darby Fire Company #1 to protect the residents of the borough with the most state-of-the-art equipment available! A heart-felt thanks from Darby Fire Company to the Fireman's Fund for issuing us this grant. After the check presentation those in attendance were treated to a buffet-style lucheon given by our firehouse hall chef! Lynbrook Circle in Collingdale bringing Collingdale and Darby Firefighters on the box. Units arrived with heavy smoke showing and fire in the basement. Several handlines were stretched to bring the blaze under control. 2 firefighters were "kissed" by he red devil and are expected to return to service soon. Upon the arrival of engine 04-2 crews found a 2 story middle of the row with heavy smoke showing from sides A and C. crews went in-service with an 1 3/4" engine 04-2 interior crew was met by fire in the dining room and also had a heavy fire load in the basement. crews made a good stop and the fire was held to just 1 alarm.
