Our engine company offers an exceptional environment for honing essential firefighting skills, with ample opportunities for hands-on experience at the nozzle. We take great pride in our live-in program, which plays a crucial role in ensuring our apparatus is the first to respond to dispatch calls. Our team is known for its commitment and is frequently described as one of the most aggresive in the field. With an average of 50 working box alarms per year, live-in members can gain extensive experience, mastering techniques through real-world application.

In addition to valuable experience, our program offers several membership benefits, including access to a fully-equipped gym, a finished kitchen, complimentary training, and issued gear. Being a live-in provides not only professional development but also the opportunity to forge lifelong friendships and build connections within the fire service community. Our live-in members often train together, share meals, and build camaraderie through shared activities. Join us to advance your skills and become part of a close-knit, supportive team.

Fireman since 2021

I initially looked to Darby as somewhere to stay during my rotation for a closer commute for work, but soon found it to be a place I would like to be a regular at. From the start, getting to know the guys and how they operate, I knew it was something special that I wanted to be part of. After every call you feel that you're making a difference in the community. Our nature of being the most aggresive and maintaining that attitude often lands us first on scene, sometimes leading to us being by ourselves for a little bit before further help arrives. When that happens, you know you can count on your crew to come together and get the job done. I haven't had any day I felt like I couldn't count on my crew, at the end of the day I always know I can rely on our people to preform. It's truly something special when you can give everybody a different task and they will get after it, then when it all comes together to accomplish the goal successfully without any outside help, it definitely adds to your pride.

Fireman since 2017

I joined Darby when I was sixteen as a Junior Fireman, taking in everything I could from the guys. The company paid for my training and after I completed my training I moved into the firehouse. Darby has provided me a place to stay for free so I can save money and focus on honing my craft. My time at Darby has gifted me life long friendships and helped me to gain experience that no other place can offer.
